How do we do it?
What is The Shepherd’s Shelf?
Responding to our belief that all humanity matters to God, the Shepherd’s Shelf of Christ Lutheran Church seeks to serve all persons of our community who request food assistance with acceptance, love and dignity. All persons are served without regard to race, religion, national origin, or any other factor. No attempt will ever be made to ask those we serve to confess or adhere to any set of beliefs, nor shall membership in or support of Christ Lutheran Church be a requirement for our services.

The Shepherd’s Shelf serves families living along the Sumneytown Pike corridor from Towamencin Township to Green Lane. Indificuals requesting assistance must sign a form declaring need, and provide proof of residency, along with a photo identification.
The Shepherd’s Shelf is open on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. Our distribution center is located at Christ Lutheran Church, 2211 Mainland Road (formerly Sumneytown Pike), Kulpsville, at the red building in the exit driveway.
The Shepherd’s Shelf raises funds to support its mission through an annual golf outing, donations from the members of Christ Lutheran Church, local churches, community groups, fraternal organizations and local corporations. A large portion of the food distributed is purchased from agencies such as Philabundance and regional food wholesalers. The Shepherd’s Shelf is the recipient of many local food drives.
Shepherd’s Shelf is a member of the Nutrition Coalition - a collaboration of food cupboards serving the North Penn and Indian Valley communities.
The Shepherd’s Shelf Sharing Garden provides fresh fruit and produce grown right in our own back yard. One of the goals of The Shepherd’s Shelf is to provide healthy and nutritious food to our families.
In 2013 The Shepherd’s Shelf will begin distributing household cleaning products through a relationship with Diakon Social Services/Kathryn’s Kloset - headquartered in Baltimore, MD.
The Shepherd’s Shelf Food Cupboard has been providing food assistance to families in Montgomery County since March 2004.
